The continued war between embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko against Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) Director Major-General Mohammed Badi has been referred to the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) for arbitration.
Sonko is reported to have sent a notice of declaration of dispute to the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution Eugene Wamalwa, touching on the Deed of Transfer of Functions, which he signed in February surrendering some of the key functions. He wants the deal he signed with the minister at State House, and which led to the creation of NMS terminated on grounds that it was anchored on an illegality.
The process is expected to be stormy due to existing bad blood between Badi and Sonko.
Parties expected to take part in the dispute resolution include the Attorney General, NMS, IGRTC, Council of Governors and the Nairobi City County Government team.
Sonko has asked opposition leader Raila Odinga to step in and help resolve the current leadership row in the county. He has pleaded with Chief Justice David Maraga and the senate to also help resolve the issues.
“My humble appeal now goes to the Honourable Chief Justice, the Senate and Hon Raila Odinga as great defenders of devolution in this country, we need your urgent intervention and rich wisdom in this crisis, before the county cripples down and is taken away by selfish individuals,” he said.
