COVID-19 KENYA, Govt. Intensifies Surveillance Over Spread Of New Variant In Africa

The Ministry of Health has indicated that the Kenyan Government is on high alert as the new COVID-19 variant continues spreading across African Countries.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe says the variant is entirely different from the first one detected in Kenya and other parts of the world expressing concern that it could be circulating in the Country.

“As you have heard in both National and international press there is a new variance of COVID-19, Counties and the National Government should observe a high level of vigilance and surveillance to keep the disease away,” He said.

CS Kagwe was speaking during a tour of the Narok county referral Hospital where he said health workers in all hospitals should be cautious incase such cases are detected in their Counties.

Kagwe called on Counties bordering other Countries to adhere to measures set by the Ministry of Health without fail to ensure the new variant is kept at bay.

He thanked health workers countrywide for working against all odds during the COVID-19 period.

The CS is among a team sent by President Uhuru Kenyatta to inspect and ensure his legacy projects in Narok County are completed before his term expires.

He is accompanied by Foreign affairs CS Rachel Omamo and Energy CS Charles Keter.
