MOZAMBIQUE; President Filipe Nyusi Appoints Sacked Interior Minister Amade Miquidade High Commissioner To Rwanda.

President Filipe Nyusi on Wednesday (17-11) appointed Amade Miquidade to the post of High Commissioner of the Republic of Mozambique to the Republic of Rwanda.

Amade Miquidade had been discharged on November 9 from the post of Interior Minister of Mozambique, being replaced on November 11 by Arsénia Massingue.

Miquidade was one of the faces of the Defence and Security Forces (FDS) which, among other tasks, had the tough mission of pacifying the country, focusing on the northern operational theatre, where acts of terrorism and violent extremism have been taking place for three years.

Miquidade will now move on to represent Mozambique in a country with a strong military intervention in Cabo Delgado and where the former Minister, together with the Minister of National Defence, had the opportunity to interact with the Rwandan troops.

Amade Miquidade was a deputy in the Provincial and Popular Assembly between 1977 and 1986. He served as Provincial Director of Security from 1983 to 1986, and as National Director at the Ministry of Security from 1986 to 1991.

He held the position of Director-General of the State Intelligence and Security Services (SISE) from 1991 to 1995 and served as Secretary of the Council of State from 2005 to 2020. Amade Miquidade was secretary-general of the National Defence and Security Council (CNDS) from 1995 to 2020.

He will now be representing Mozambique in a country whose troops are helping deal with the insecurity in the Cabo Delgado province.

Rwanda sent some 1,000 troops to Mozambique in July to assist the government fight the militants.
