Aston Villa and Watford agreed a transfer fee in excess of £25M on Saturday and Sarr was due to have medical on Monday.
Watford forward Ismaila Sarr’s proposed move to Aston Villa has fallen through. Sarr’s personal terms and the structure of the move led to misunderstandings.
Sarr was not in the Watford squad for Saturday’s match at Preston North End, though Watford manager Rob Edwards said he was left out because of injury.
The 24-year-old Senegal international has scored 25 goals in 95 appearances since joining Watford from Rennes in 2019, with five of those goals coming in the Premier League last season.
He has 47 Senegal caps and was part of the team that won the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year. Bertrand Traore, the Aston Villa forward has joined Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir on loan until the end of the season.
The 26-year-old Burkina Faso international has not figured for the Midlands club in any of their three league games so far this season.
Elsewhere, Roma midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum broke his leg in training on Sunday, putting his participation at the World Cup in Qatar in doubt. The Netherlands midfielder, 31, joined Roma on loan from Paris St-Germain two weeks ago.
The Serie A club said medical tests had “confirmed the presence of a fracture to the tibia in his right leg”. The Dutch are in Group A at the World Cup along with Senegal, Ecuador and hosts Qatar.
